Pre- Waxing Tips

  1. One to two days prior to waxing, trim hair in the underarm and/or bikini areas a ½ inch. Not only does this prohibit fresh cut hairs from getting into the wax, but it also prevents pulling long hairs and hair bumps.  Comb and clip the hair with a pocket shaver with a spacer comb or use scissors with extreme caution..
  1. Exfoliate areas of skin that will be waxed routinely such as legs, bikini and underarms.  Using a loofa pad or body brush, lightly brush your skin where you will be waxed.  The benefit of this type of tool is that it eliminates dry skin cells, which in turn promotes a good wax and easy hair removal.
  1. If you are susceptible to hair bumps use a hair growth inhibitor a week or two before waxing such as Tend Skin . This assists in breaking down hair for an easier wax.  Consult your esthetician for where to purchase the growth inhibitor.
  1. Avoid waxing before or after an excessive work out.  This can result in inflammation of the skin especially in the bikini and underarm area.
  1. Make your waxing appointment at least two days prior to attending a special occasion, just in case of redness or puffiness that may occur after waxing.
  1. If you still feel a stinging sensation hours after waxing apply Neosporin or Aloe Vera gel.  This will soothe the area of discomfort. You may have encountered too many layers of skin. This sometimes may occur with dry skin, virgin waxing and those with sensitive skin.
  1. If you are on medication please advise your esthetician before services so she can decide whether or not it is appropriate to wax or use another form of hair removal.
  1. Take a Tylenol or some sort of pain reliever an hour before waxing.  This relieves some of the waxing discomfort.
